Today has been yet another fantastic Tri-4-Life day. A day of beautiful sunshine saw the ladies cycling team set off at 9am on Day 1 of the Fred Witton Challenge - joined by Alan Kirkham bringing his motivation, knowledge, and of course, bike mechanic skills to the team.
The mens team left an hour later and after a great ride up Kirkstone Pass had a catalogue of punctures and tyre problems, leading a much longer day in the saddle than expected! That said, what could have been better? Fab weather, stunning scenery, and riding the great passes of the Lake District, including the Honister with its particular poignancy for us all.
The camera crew were with us much of the day too, recording the grimaces, sweat and achievements for all to see. Here's to Fred Witton day 2 tomorrow..........
Another note from a new team member on a two day visit.... Paul Bradford!
What a fantastic day! This is my first day with the T4L team and it was one to remember. After receiving a warm welcome in the pub last night, I joined a big group of riders as we set off to tackle the first half of the Fred Witton Challenge. The numerous mechanical issues we encountered did not effect the morale of the squad as we were buoyed by great weather, scenery and camaraderie.
I couldn't quite imagine what the T4L group would be like and I have been really impressed with everything. Everyone is made welcome, and kids are actively encouraged to be here too.
On to day 2 of the challenge tomorrow, and I'm sorry to say it will be my last. I only wish I could stay longer.
I wish the group a safe and enjoyable 2nd week!
